Research Assistant - Broadband and Mobile Networking - Optical Networking

The Optical Networking group is seeking a Research Assistant with knowledge of research processes and optical and wireless networks to assist with the lab operation. Specifically, the candidate will be expected to:

• Coordinate the inventory and equipment of a network research lab
• Maintain and enhance the lab infrastructure
• Provide technical support to researchers—experiment set up, equipment testing, system configuration and assembling

Required Education/Experience:

B.E. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Telecommunications (or related field) with 1-3 years of experience in industrial or academic communications research lab Required

Skills:

• Experience with optical fiber handling, splicing, and testing
• Experience with electronic circuit design and assembly
• Hands-on experience with Ethernet and other IP-based networks
• Good programming and software development skills
• Working knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
• Experience with basic equipment repair and maintenance
• Proficiency in finding and organizing abstract reference materials
• Good organizational, multi-tasking and time management skills
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills
