NEC Laboratories America is the anchor of NEC’s research organization in the US scientific community. As part of the scientific community we strive for excellence in research.  As part of NEC we pursue at the same time continuous innovations with high business and technical impact. As part of our mission we bring scientific knowledge into development projects that expand current businesses and create new ones in the US and globally.

We cover a broad range of research areas combining basic and applied research with an emphasis on a multi-disciplinary approach. Our focus is on research projects in high-impact areas that combine challenging and creative research with clear direction and objectives. We leverage complementary research across NEC and partner organizations in joint research projects.

Information Analysis & Data Management
In the era of information society, people are inundated by floods of low-quality, high volumes of information. We are developing new information analysis and management technologies that enable us to turn raw surveillance video streams into valuable information sources, noisy, low-quality internet data into knowledge-bases, and complex web service creations into simple cut & paste operations of existing web services with minimum SI requirements. more info...


Broadband and Mobile Networks
No single networking technology – wired or wireless – will fit all the requirements of every platform and user. A fundamental challenge is to provide users with seamless mobility across heterogeneous wireless networks. Robust and Secure Systems
The ultimate survivable system autonomously carries out its mission and protects itself against known as well as unknown faults and threats. Fundamental to computing systems that enable powerful applications are technologies and design methodologies that rapidly transform ideas into working systems. Quantum IT
The quantum computer, when it is finally brought to fruition, will likely far surpass the capabilities of even the most powerful of today’s supercomputers. NEC Labs America does basis research in quantum computation searching for potential uses of this new model of computing. more info...
