Hear from our Dr. Giovanni Milione, Senior Researcher, about working at NEC Labs America. Giovanni has a BS in Physics from Stony Brook University, a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Physics from The Graduate Center, City University of New York Center, and is a U.S. Army veteran. He has been recognized for developing optical networking, sensing, biometrics, and AI technologies. He has been granted 15 patents, contributed to 80+ peer-reviewed publications, and has 3,000+ citations.
NEC Laboratories America, Inc. is the US-based center for NEC Corporation’s global network of corporate research laboratories. We aspire to perform problem-driven research motivated by fundamental human needs with the intent to remove critical barriers and open new commercial markets. Importantly, we engage with NEC business units to use these disruptive solutions to create key differentiation in NEC products and platforms, opening new markets and providing a competitive advantage to NEC Corporation.
Beginning on your date of hire, you may contribute on a pre-tax or after-tax basis or through a Roth 401(k). We will match 50% of up to 6% of your 401(k) contributions. After one year, you qualify for an additional match equal to 2% of your salary.
Our bonus program rewards employees based on both individual performance and NEC Corporation’s financial performance. Our employee referral program pays you a cash bonus of $2,500 whenever we hire a candidate you’ve referred.

You will be eligible to receive company-provided life insurance and accidental death and dismemberment insurance coverage worth two times your annual salary. In addition, you may purchase supplemental life insurance coverage worth up to five times your annual salary. Life insurance is also available for dependents.
We provide a generous salary continuance program if you cannot work due to an illness or disability that qualifies for short-term disability or workers’ compensation coverage. The plan pays 100% of your salary for the first 30 days and then 66.67% for the remaining 180 days.
Our long-term disability program allows you to participate on a voluntary basis through payroll deductions. This coverage provides monthly income protection beginning on the 181st day of disability up to a maximum of $10,000 per month.
If you quality for medical coverage, you and your eligible dependents also qualify for NEC’s Employee Assistance Program (EAP). The EAP can provide help for stress, anxiety, depression or conflict, and is designed to help individuals deal with issues before they escalate into bigger problems.
The number of vacation days you accrue each year ranges from 15 to 25, based on the duration of your employment. You also receive 11 paid holidays per year.
We offer you 13 sick/personal days per year to use in the event of an illness or other personal emergency.
Educational reimbursements will compensate you for expenses associated with career-related coursework.
Although certain core hours may be required, many managers will allow their staff members to work flexibly to better accommodate their personal schedules.
In addition to hosting picnics and holiday parties, we provide on-site fitness centers for employee use at both of our campuses. The Princeton campus also has tennis, basketball and sand volleyball courts.
We provide free coffee, espresso, soft drinks, juices and teas, as well as a selection of fresh fruit and other healthy snacks.
