First Field Demonstration of Hollow-Core Fibre Supporting Distributed Acoustic Sensing and DWDM Transmission

Session: Th1F.1 Time: 09:00

Ezra Ip (Presenter, NEC Labs America), Ming-Fang Huang (NEC Labs America), Yue-Kai Huang (NEC Labs America), Junqiang Hu (NEC Labs America), Giacomo Borraccini (NEC Labs America), Andrea D’Amico (NEC Labs America), Glenn Wellbrock (Verizon), Tiejun Xia (Verizon), Jamie Lynn (NEC Corp), Danny Peterson (OFS), Brian Mangan (OFS), Kyle Dube (OFS), Benyuan Zhu (OFS), Ting Wang (NEC Labs America) and Koji Asahi (NEC Corp)

Abstract: We demonstrate a method for measuring the backscatter coefficient of hollow-core fibre (HCF), and show the feasibility of distributed acoustic sensing (DAS) with simultaneous 9.6-Tb/s DWDM transmission over a 1.6-km field-deployed HCF cable.

Machine Learning Model for EDFA Predicting SHB Effects

Session: Tu1A.6  Time: 10:15

Fatih Yaman (Presenter, NEC Labs America), Andrea D’Amico (NEC Labs America), Eduardo Mateo (NEC Corp), Takanori Inoue (NEC Corp), Yoshihisa Inada (NEC Corp). Experiments show that machine learning model of an EDFA is capable of modelling spectral hole burning effects machine-learning accurately. As a result, it significantly outperforms black-box models that neglect inhomogeneous effects. Model achieves a record average RMSE of 0.0165 dB between the model predictions and measurements.
