National Intern Day at NEC Laboratories America: Celebrating the Next Generation of Innovators
At NEC Laboratories America, disruptive innovation isn’t just a mission, it’s a mindset. And on National Intern Day, July 24th, we’re proud to recognize the brilliant interns who contribute their energy, curiosity, and fresh ideas to help shape the future of technology. Each summer at our Princeton and San Jose locations, we welcome a cohort of exceptional students from top universities worldwide to work alongside our researchers on real-world challenges.
“Our interns bring a spirit of curiosity and a drive to solve real-world problems that energizes our entire organization. At NECLA, we don’t just mentor future innovators—we learn from them. On National Intern Day, we celebrate their contributions and the bright future they represent.” — Chris White, President, NEC Laboratories America
Interns work on developing disruptive research in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, data science & system security, integrated systems, media analytics, machine learning, optical networking & sensing, and related fields. These interns are more than students; they are emerging scientists and engineers whose work pushes the boundaries of what’s possible.
“The opportunity to work on cutting-edge projects and publish alongside leading researchers has been an incredible experience,” said one of our 2025 interns. “At NECLA, you’re treated like a peer, not just a student.”
Our internship program offers more than just lab experience. Interns attend tech talks, join innovation workshops, present at conferences and participate in team-building events that foster collaboration across departments. Whether they’re building next-generation AI models, developing privacy-preserving systems, or testing quantum architectures, our interns gain hands-on exposure to the same challenges that drive our research forward.
Beyond the lab, NECLA interns enjoy a vibrant summer filled with fun and connection. From volleyball games and outdoor cookouts to field trips to San Francisco, our program seamlessly blends innovation with community. These experiences foster not only team spirit but also the collaborative culture that defines NECLA.
We believe in investing in the future, not just of technology, but of the people behind it. Many former NECLA interns have gone on to join our research teams full-time, continuing to collaborate with us. Their ideas, enthusiasm, and talent are vital to the innovation ecosystem we’re building.

To all our interns, past and present, including our 2025 class below: Thank you. Your work inspires us every day.
Happy National Intern Day from all of us at NEC Laboratories America!
