Road Safety Enhancement refers to the implementation of measures, strategies, and technologies aimed at reducing the risk of accidents, injuries, and fatalities on roads. The goal is to create a safer and more secure environment for all road users, including pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers. Road safety enhancement involves a combination of infrastructure improvements, educational campaigns, enforcement of traffic regulations, and the integration of advanced technologies to mitigate and prevent road-related incidents.
We demonstrate a new application of fiber-optic-sensing and machine learning techniques for vehicle run-off-road events detection to enhance roadway safety and efficiency. The proposed approach achieves high accuracy in a testbed under various experimental conditions.
