Laser Vibrometer is a non-contact instrument that measures vibrations using laser beams. NEC Labs America employs laser vibrometers in validating distributed acoustic sensing systems, comparing fiber optic measurements with direct vibration readings. Laser Vibrometer experiments improve the accuracy of fiber-based monitoring, supporting applications such as infrastructure diagnostics, seismic observation, and industrial safety. This tool ensures rigorous evaluation of advanced sensing platforms.
We propose a hybrid remote and distributed vibration sensing system based on phase-sensitive optical time-domain reflectometry with collimator-based sensor heads. We demonstrate dual-laser vibrometers that detects nm-scale displacements of remote targets.
