Road Infrastructure Monitoring is the continuous assessment of roads, bridges, and tunnels using distributed sensors and AI. NEC Labs America applies fiber optic sensing and computer vision to monitor structural integrity, detect faults, and predict maintenance needs. Road infrastructure monitoring supports safer transportation networks and reduces long-term costs through predictive maintenance strategies.
This study demonstrates an AI-driven method for detecting road deformations using Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) over existing telecom fiber networks. Utilizingambient traffic noise, it enables real-time, long-term, and scalable monitoring for road safety.
