A Telecommunication Network is a system of interconnected nodes that transmits voice, data, and video signals across distances. It includes infrastructure such as switches, routers, transmission media, and protocols. Networks are categorized by scale, including local (LAN), wide-area (WAN), and global Internet systems. NEC Laboratories America conducts research to improve network efficiency, resilience, and scalability. Telecommunication networks are the backbone of modern digital communication.
The 2021 emergence of Brood X cicadas was monitored in situ in our testbed using a DAS system connected to an outdoor telecom fiber over a 16-day period. The spectral and energy characteristics of the cicada calling signal has been measured and analyzed.
